Question on large-scale events in Discovery Bay during Easter holidays causing nuisance to local residents
Ms Amy YUNG notified this Council that she would raise the following enquiry at the Islands District Council meeting to be held on 26 April this year:
“   At the meeting of Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries, Environmental Hygiene and Climate Change Committee on 29 March, I raised a related question.  However, Hong Kong Resort Company Limited (HKRCL) did not arrange representatives to attend the meeting and only provided a written reply as usual.
In addition, at the meeting of Traffic and Transport Committee on 22 March, I raised a question regarding the operation of Discovery Bay Residents’ Service (RS) but neither Discovery Bay Transit Services Limited (DBTSL) nor Discovery Bay Services Management Limited (DBSML) arranged representatives to attend the meeting to give response.  I pointed out at the meeting that RS aimed to provide service to Discovery Bay residents who should be given priority in bus rides.  HKRCL should make other transport arrangements for visitors if it organises activities rather than using RS to provide transport for visitors.
As such, I would like HKRCL to arrange representatives to attend the meeting to respond to the following:
1. In view of long queues at bus stops and the fact that the residents fail to get on a bus after waiting for a long time, will DBTSL make special arrangements?
2. The beach, plaza and toilets in Discovery Bay were packed with visitors during the events, causing nuisance to the residents.  Were the measures taken by HKRCL against the epidemic effective?
3. If the epidemic persists, will there be fewer large-scale activities to avoid causing nuisance to Discovery Bay residents? ”
