Question on Government Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for the Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities and Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme

IDC, Traffic and Transport Committee
Paper T&TC 40/2020

Ms Amy YUNG notified this Council that she would raise the following enquiry at the Traffic and Transport Committee meeting to be held on 20 July 2020:

At present, regular kaito services, “A” and “NA” franchised bus routes and Residents’ Services (RS) are not covered under the Government Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for the Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities; whereas among the five regular kaito services of Islands District, “Cheung Chau Public Pier – Sai Wan” and “Peng Chau/Trappist Monastery – Discovery Bay” routes are the only two not covered under the Public Transport Fare Subsidy Scheme (PTFSS).

As such, I would like the Labour and Welfare Bureau, the Transport and Housing Bureau and the Transport Department to arrange representatives to attend the meeting and respond to the following:

1. When would the $2 fare concession scheme be extended to all regular kaito services, “A” and “NA” franchised bus routes and RS?

2. Why are “Cheung Chau Public Pier – Sai Wan” and “Peng Chau/Trappist Monastery – Discovery Bay” kaito routes not covered under the PTFSS?

3. Would the bureaux consider including the above two routes in the PTFSS?   ”
