Question on ambulance service in Chek Lap Kok and Lantau Island

IDC Community Affairs, Culture and Recreation Committee
Paper CACRC   /2020

Ms Amy YUNG notified this Council that she would raise the following enquiry at the Community Affairs, Culture and Recreation Committee meeting to be held on 6 July this year:

“    At the meeting of Islands District Council on 13 December 2010, the representative of Fire Services Department (FSD) stated that if the only ambulance in Discovery Bay Fire Station was summonsed, ambulances would be deployed as standby from the neighbouring districts.

In view of the rapid growth of Chek Lap Kok and Lantau Island, I am afraid that the resources might not meet the demand.  In this connection, I would like FSD to arrange representatives to attend the meeting and respond to the following:

1. Please provide the respective numbers of ambulances stationed in each fire station and ambulance depot of Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok from 2010 to 2020.
2. Please provide the respective numbers of emergency calls handled by each fire station and ambulance depot in Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok in 2019, and percentages of achieving the performance pledge of arrival within 12 minutes after receiving emergency calls.
3. Does the Department review the allocation of ambulances on a regular basis to cater for the population growth in various districts?
4. Will the Department consider increasing the number of ambulances in the fire stations and ambulance depots of Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok and identifying ambulances for early replacement in light of the growth of resident population and labour force?  ”
